Today, 15th March 2019, people around the world are mobilizing to demand action on climate change, inspired by the example of Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg.
Her solitary decision to take a stand against her national government has snowballed into a global campaign that has highlighted the importance of climate change at all levels. It’s all the more powerful because it was started by a 16-year-old schoolgirl simply concerned about the future of the planet she will inhabit.
Greening the Islands recognizes that many islands will disappear if mitigation and adaptation strategies are not urgently implemented, both in small, isolated communities and in the giant cities of the future. That’s why the #FridaysforFuture movement is important to us too.
Islands are generally more exposed to the direct efects of climate change. Their territory is obviously impacted by any rise of sea levels and is frequently more affected by weather instability.
To help keep the momentum going and take the message to as many people as possible, Greening the Islands is taking action to help the campaign. Greening the Islands has produced a brochure with information about climate changes, its causes and its effects and especially what actions we can all take to make a difference. The document is available on our website for use for schools, our partners and any interested parties. It can be printed and distributed.
