News & Blog

The Greening the Islands Observatory is continuing its tour of member islands, examining the different situations and evaluating possible pathways to a more sustainable future together with key local stakeholders.

The next appointment is just around the corner: on May 28-29 the Observatory will hold its Island meeting on Favignana, situated just off the western coast of Sicily. Held in association with the Municipality of Favignana, the gathering aims to refine a shortlist of projects discussed in Rome late last year and deepen its knowledge of the current situation of the Egadi archipelago, its needs and potential solutions on energy, water, mobility and waste. An overview of policy, regulation and permitting will be presented and discussed and there will also be site visits.

The Greening the Islands Observatory was launched a year ago in occasion of the 5th Greening the International Conference in Minorca. It is a think tank analyzing island needs, identifying innovative solutions and supporting governments and corporates in implementing sustainable strategies. The first working year is focusing on solutions in energy, water, mobility applied on a selected group of islands: the Egadi Archipelago (Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo – Italy), Crete (Greece), Helgoland (Germany) and Borocay (Philippines).

Productive and stimulating meetings have already been held this year in Crete and Helgoland.

We take processes apart, rethink, rebuild, and deliver them back working smarter than ever before.
