The Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana announced that the Ministry for Gozo together with the Gozo Business Chamber, signed an agreement with Greening the Islands to join this international initiative and thus become part of an international observatory to further promote Gozo as an ecological island with much to offer in this important agenda.

The Minister said that through this initiative, over the coming year, different entities and international experts will be in Gozo to begin work on new projects and initiatives that can be piloted from the island which eventually will have the potential take regional, European and international dimension.

“This is an opportunity to learn and contribute for Gozo to be at the centre of this observatory not merely to have sustainable projects and initiatives for Gozo but also to explore sustainable growth in areas of the green and circular economies, and to oversee job creation within these new sectors.”

Mr Joe Borg, President of the Gozo Business Chamber, said that the Gozo Chamber of Commerce fully supports this initiative and that this is a very important opportunity to foster cooperation between Gozo and large entities such as Greening the Islands.

Gianni Chianetta, on behalf of Greening-the Islands, said that Gozo has natural beauty and has huge potential in the environmental agenda in its most broad sense, including the economic sectors and Gozo holds a potential to be an important member of this initiative especially for the purpose of becoming an international observatory operating at a global level.
