François Alfonsi

Member of ITRE Committee – European Parliament

“Bringing together ecology and regionalism”
François Alfonsi is a trained engineer, specialized in energy issues. He co-founded the “Comité Anti-Vaziu” , in the late 1970s, to refuse the installation of a heavy oil thermal power plant in Aiacciu and to build the island’s energy autonomy.
Involved in all the struggles for the recognition of the Corsican people, their right to language and full autonomy, he co-founded the Federation Régions & peuples solidaires and contributes to the reconciliation of the two currents, environmentalists and regionalists.
Elected Member of the European Parliament in 2009, his report in favor of regional languages was voted by 90% of the Members.
With the majority of the Collectivité de Corse led by Gilles Simeoni, he aims, in particular, to better take into account the insular factor in EU policies.
Now reelected as a Member of the EP, he sits on the Committee on Energy, Industry and Research (ITRE) and the Committee on Regional Development (REGI).
