Greening the Islands is a global initiative that has been launched to promote and disseminate sustainable projects dedicated to islands and remote locations. The aim of our project is to enhance the development of an enlarged concept of “circular economy”, embracing not only isolated systems and the four relevant pillars of the green economy – energy, water, waste and mobility – but also the agriculture, eco-tourism, culture and traditions field.
Greening the Islands conferences are the must attend event for sustainability professionals and players – belonging to/or representing institutions and businesses – working in insular contexts and remote locations.
3° edition of Greening the Islands Italia
The 3rd edition of Greening the Islands Italia, held in collaboration with the Italian Association of Small Island Municipalities (ANCIM), will focus on the dissemination of successful green economy best practices, in addition to plans to modernize electricity and water networks enabling the islands to reach their self-sufficiency in full respect of the local environment, turning their territory in attractive green destinations for travellers and green-lovers, thus encouraging the responsible & sustainable tourism. In fact, the theme of the relationship between sustainable development and benefits for the tourism economy will be addressed.
The conference, therefore, aims to deal also with the most effective regulatory framework and incentive supports, in order to promote a simplification process of the authorization procedures, encouraging the investments. In particular we will disucss: on the opportunities of the minor islands decree that introduces incentives for renewables in the islands not interconnected thanks to the savings on diesel, on the calls of the Municipalities of the Islands awarded the Ministry of the Environment funds on energy efficiency, sustainable mobility and adaptation to climate change, on the new Framework Law on the Minor Islands that will allocate funds for integrated territorial development projects. Finally, we will try to stimulate a process of simplification of the authorization procedures, often unjustifiably complex and inhomogeneous, that discourage funding.
